Arkabutla Lake was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, located just seven miles from Hernando, MS.

Arkabutla Lake provides some of the best fishing in the southeast for largemouth and white bass, as well as channel and flathead catfish and is rated one of the top five crappie fishing lakes in the country.  

Arkabutla Lake’s remote location is an ideal setting for a serene retreat.  There are trails for hiking or biking and many amenities are ADA accessible, such as, a fishing pier, swimming beach and playgrounds. In addition to the beautiful campgrounds, there are more than 30,000 acres of land open for public hunting throughout the year for dove, squirrel, bobwhite quail, rabbit, deer and turkey.

Arkabutla's 33,000 acre lake has a “recreation pool” of 11,240 acres.  The lake offers some of the best sailing east of the Mississippi River.  You can enjoy swimming at one of three beaches, or setting up camp at one of 229 campsites.

There are picnic areas, playgrounds and a variety of events year round, including a Deer Hunt for Persons with Disabilities. Tthe Corps of Engineers and DeSoto County Disc Golf Club developed an 18-hole disc golf course near Pratt Road below the dam. The Lost Indian Spring Disc Golf Course is 5,623 feet (2,129 steps). Use of the disc golf course is free.

Arkabutla Lake Visitor Information Center offers an array of informational materials, such as brochures, project regulations, camping information and area maps.  You will also find several interesting exhibits and displays that explain the missions of the Corps at Arkabutla Lake.  The Visitor Information Center is open weekdays from 7:00am until 3:00pm.

Dub Patton Campground is located just seven miles from Hernando, MS. Class A camping facilities, perfect for tent camping or for accommodating today’s modern RVs.   Dub Patton has 66 campsites in a predominately pine forested area. There are a variety of boat ramps to launch from, day-use areas to enjoy, playgrounds, picnic shelters, picnic sites, nature trails, and a swimming beach.  The Outlet Channel is also nearby.  There you can fish from our ADA accessible pier or fish all day or all night without the need for a boat.

The Hernando Point Campground is located on the east side of Arkabutla Lake, five miles south of Hernando, MS or three miles north of Coldwater, MS. Hernando Point has 83 campsites to choose from located in a beautiful upland hardwood area with campsites that offer a beautiful shoreline view of the lake. The campground is also located beside the Hernando Point Day-Use area where access to a playground, picnic sites, picnic shelter, swimming beach, and boat launching ramp is just around the bend!  

South Abutment Campground at Arkabutla Lake

The South Abutment Campground sits along Arkabutla Lake and Dam in the hills of northwest Mississippi. The campground is located just south of the Arkabutla Dam. South Abutment has 80 campsites many of which hug the shoreline in an attractive wooded ridge land area.  The campground is located close to day-use areas that have boat ramps, playgrounds, nature trails, picnic sites, picnic shelters, and a swimming beach.  Enjoy fishing from the bank within the campground around some of the lake’s vivid coves and points, or you can fish at the nearby Outlet Channel. This campground a trailer dump station.
