Whether it’s hunting, fishing, boating, sailing or just enjoying the outdoors, Arkabutla Lake provides a variety of opportunities for all outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy. There are trails for hiking or biking and many amenities are ADA accessible, such as, a fishing pier, swimming beach and playgrounds in addition to accessible sites in the campgrounds. Recreation on the lake provides for some of the best fishing in the southeast and some of the best sailing east of the Mississippi River.

The lake is home to several species of native fish to Mississippi waters, such as Largemouth Bass, Bream, Catfish, and is renowned for producing huge Crappie.  There are more than 30,000 acres of land open for public hunting, 229 Class A campsites and 46 primitive campsites, eight boat ramps, two swimming beaches, five playgrounds, 10 picnic areas and Disc golf. 

Arkabutla Lake has a Visitor Information Center that offers an array of informational materials, such as, brochures, project regulations, camping information and area maps. You will also find several interesting exhibits and displays that explain the missions of the Corps at Arkabutla Lake. The Visitor Information Center is open weekdays from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Dub Patton Campground at Arkabutla Lake

Dub Patton is a Class A camping facility with 66 campsites, perfect for tent camping or for accommodating today’s modern RVs. 

From I-55 take the Coldwater, Mississippi, exit and proceed west on Scenic Route 304. Follow the signs to the camping area, which is located just north of the dam.

Hernando Point at Arkabutla Lake

End of Wheeler Road 

This year-round campground offers 83 Class A family sites and one-day use shelter, all with electric hookups. Amenities like flush toilets, showers and drinking water provide a comfortable camping experience for guests.

From I-55, take the Hernando, Mississippi exit and turn west. Continue to to HWY 51 and turn south. Turn west on Wheeler Road and follow signs into campground.

South Abutment Recreation Area

The South Abutment Recreation Area isits along Arkabutla Lake and Dam in the hills of northwestr Mississippi. This campground offers 80 Class A campsites in a predominantly pine-forested area and a trailer dump station. The nearby day use area includes one picnic shelter, numerous picnic tables playground and designated swimming beach. Visitors enjoy outdoor recreational activities such as camping, fishing, boating, swimming, biking and spending a relaxing day taking in all that nature has to offer.

From I-55, take the Hernando, Mississippi exit and follow Scenic Route 304 to the main dam. Follow signs into the recreation area; the campground is just south of the dam.
