The South Abutment Recreation Area is located approximately five miles north of Arkabutla, MS. The campground is located just south of the Arkabutla Dam. This campground offers 80 campsites and a trailer dump station. The nearby day use area includes one picnic shelter, playground, designated swimming beach, and numerous picnic tables. Visitors enjoy outdoor recreational activities such as camping, fishing, boating, swimming, biking and spending a relaxing day taking in all that nature has to offer. Hernando Point Recreation Area - located on the east side of Arkabutla Lake, five miles south of Hernando, MS or three miles north of Coldwater, MS; a beautiful upland hardwood area with campsites that offer a beautiful shoreline view of the lake. This campground offers 83 campsites and a trailer dump station. The nearby day use area includes picnic sites with numerous picnic tables, one picnic shelter, playground, swimming beach, and boat launching ramp. Located just seven miles from Hernando. The 40,704 acre lake was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is rated one of the top five crappie fishing lakes in the country and offers opportunities for largemouth and white bass, as well as channel and flathead catfish. Arkabutla opens 37,700 acres of land to the public for hunting throughout the year for dove, squirrel, bobwhite quail, rabbit, deer and turkey. You can enjoy excellent sailing, swimming at one of three beaches, or setting up camp at one of 333 campsites. There are picnic areas, playgrounds and a variety of events year round, including a Deer Hunt For Persons With Disabilities. Also, the Corps of Engineers and DeSoto county Disc Golf Club has rendered an 18-hole disc golf course near Pratt Road below the dam. The Lost Indian Spring Disc Golf Course is 5,623 feet (2,129 steps). Use of the disc golf course is “free”. |
