Confederate Memorial Service and Picnic

The Sons of the Confederate Veterans will hold a free memorial service at the Hernando Memorial Cemetery, located off Hwy 51, to honor those who died for the Confederate States during the Civil War. This year is the sesquicentennial anniversary of when General Bedford Fiorrest came through Hernando on his way to raid Memphis.

Hernando Memorial Cemetery has the largest number of Confederate graves in DeSoto County with 100 marked graves and a mass grave for 60 soldiers, in addition to Mississippi’s second oldest Confederate monument, erected in 1875.
